Lorenzo Barajas was awarded a certificate of appreciation in February 2026, for five years of service.

Lorenzo Barajas serves one of the Equipment Operators and lead Culvert Crew Field Supervisor, and for the past five consecutive years, he has been a steady, reliable force behind some of our most critical field operations.

A notable achievement in Lorenzo’s career was obtaining his Commercial Driver’s License – Class A license through the District in an exceptionally short timeframe – an accomplishment that proved critical to supporting District operations and maintaining workflow efficiency. His ability to quickly adapt and meet operational demands reflects his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.

Lorenzo consistently demonstrates strong leadership in the planning, coordination, and installation of culvert pipe systems, whether for District dump‑pipe projects or landowner driveway culverts. His ability to manage his team efficiently, anticipate project needs, and maintain steady production has been central to the success of numerous District field initiatives.

Lorenzo’s working knowledge of survey equipment is a particularly valuable strength, especially because it is combined with his clear understanding of the importance of precise engineered elevations. His attention to detail ensures that each installation meets design requirements for proper stormwater conveyance, which is an essential function for maintaining the reliability of the District’s water control system.

Lorenzo approaches every assignment with professionalism and accountability. He takes pride in delivering work that is accurate, timely, and durable. His straightforward leadership style, paired with a commitment to quality and safety, makes him a highly respected colleague among both staff and management.

Brad Bruorton

Brad Bruorton will also celebrate five years with the District in May 2026.

Brad is a valued member of the District’s maintenance team whose skill, dedication, and professionalism make a lasting impact on daily operations and long-term infrastructure projects. As an exceptionally talented excavator operator, Brad approaches his work with precision and efficiency, consistently delivering high-quality results on even the most complex assignments.

Known for his work ethic and positive attitude, Brad exemplifies loyalty and commitment to the District. He plays a critical role in major projects such as the Florida Turnpike East Canal maintenance excavation – an essential effort that takes place only once every 40 years and requires experience, focus, and technical expertise. Daily operations include operating the District’s tree grinder and helping keep canals clear of overhead obstructions that could pose risks during severe weather events such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

Outside of work, Brad’s competitive spirit carries over into professional pool, where he has competed at the national level, including tournaments in Las Vegas – an impressive reminder of his focus, discipline, and drive.

His drive for excellence, both on and off the job, makes him a standout employee and a respected member of the District team, and his work directly supports public safety, preventative maintenance, and the District’s mission to protect infrastructure and the surrounding community.
